Excellent book. Tons of beautiful photos, including closeups of different historic warbonnets. Very comprehensive in its discussion of various types of bonnets as well as the differences in historic and modern construction and detailing. Not sure what a previous reviewer meant when he said that this book doesn't include instructions for making your own warbonnet -- it certainly DOES (pages 65 - 94, Chapter 9, called "Constructing a Basic Warbonnet"). For example, there are four pages just on construction of the crown or cap of the warbonnet. Additional chapters detail how to make a 'trailer' bonnet and a Blackfoot-style "straight-up" bonnet. I actually held off purchasing this book because of what that review said! Glad I finally got it. I highly recommend this informative and useful book.
Very entertaining and informative. The author appears quite knowledgeable, covering the history, construction and the various types of feathered warbonnets, with many illustrations; great for both coffee table and research shelf. I have read similar works and come away disappointed, but this book seems to really have it all. Heartilly recommended for the serious student and the hobbyist wishing to construct a proper replica.
Fairly good book. I was expecting a tutorial on how to make a bonnet from start to finish. This is not that book!Lots of history and regionalism background. It does roughly explain the stages of making a bonnet.
